DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Playing in their first playoff game since 2019, Detroit’s opening game in New York was shy of a victory, falling in the fourth quarter. New York went on a 21-0 run in the final quarter after Detroit had an eight-point lead, taking the win away from the Pistons 123-112.
Tuesday night brings another chance for the Pistons to earn their first playoff win since 2008. They have already accomplished being one of the best turnaround stories in NBA history, going from 14 wins last year to 44 this year.

The excitement for the Pistons has grown this year, and the fans are ready for a post-season win. Trajan Langdon, Pistons President of Basketball Operations, said, “As we’ve gotten better, [fans]support has continued to grow. You can feel it, the energy. You can feel fans getting there earlier and being louder. It’s been a lot of fun and I think all of us appreciate the support from the fans and from the city.”
Tobias Harris commented after game one, “Our confidence, it’s at an all-time high. We know what time it is. There’s no one over here holding their head down. We know what we’re mad of, we know we have worked so hard for every single day of this season. We’re ready for game 2.”
Harris, Malik Beasley, Tim Hardaway, Jr., and Dennis Schroder are the only four with playoff experience, and they combined for 72 of the team’s 112 points on Saturday. Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff comments, “These are learning lessons for us, and we have to be honest with ourselves when it comes to that. You just come back the next game and it’s about how quickly do you learn from it. We have guys in their first playoff games and are just understanding what playoff basketball is and how hard it is to close a playoff basketball game.”
Detroit’s chance to win their first game in the postseason since 2008 comes on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in New York in the second game of the series.
