ST. IGNACE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Enbridge Energy Line 5 tunnel project in the Straits of Mackinac is running full-steam ahead after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers allowed the permitting process to be accelerated.

In addition, the public notice says the Line 5 tunnel project aligns with a January executive order signed by President Donald Trump that indicates the U.S. has insufficient energy production. His administration is focused on making America energy independent.

In a call with the media on Wednesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it is “currently working to establish an updated timeline for its permit review under the emergency procedures.”

Canadian-based Enbridge Energy is putting up $500 million of its own money to build the tunnel so Michiganders can have access to reliable energy. There have been no environmental disasters related to Line 5, but the Whitmer administration is pushing to shut it down. So far, both the governor and Attorney General Dana Nessel have lost their battles in court.
