LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The federal deadline for REAL-ID compliancy is approaching.
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is reminding Michiganders that their driver’s licenses or ID must be upgraded to a REAL ID by May 7. That’s because all U.S. airlines will require a REAL ID-compliant document to board a domestic flight starting on that date.

The new design features a REAL ID star inside the gold shape of Michigan. Older blue and green licenses and IDs that have the REAL ID star in a gold circle are compliant as well.

The new law stems from the federal REAL ID Act of 2005. It was passed in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
