DOE Secretary Chris Wright said the Trump administration is committed to reliable and close-to-home energy resources. “Unleashing American energy dominance will require leveraging all energy sources that are affordable, reliable and secure – including nuclear energy,” he said. “Today’s action is yet another step toward advancing President Trump’s commitment to increase domestic energy production, bolster our security and lower costs for the American people.”
The Palisades Nuclear Plant will be America’s first restart of a commercial nuclear reactor that ceased operations, subject to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensing approvals. The project is projected to support or retain up to 600 jobs in Michigan. According to the DOE, some of these positions will be filled by former workers who’d been at the plant for more than two decades.
