EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Tom Izzo, no. 7 Michigan State’s head coach and Big Ten Coach of the Year, enters the 2025 Big Ten Tournament with six titles and 11 regular season championships. Michigan State will be the favorite this weekend in Indianapolis as the no. 1 seed and is looking for their seventh tournament championship and first since 2019.

MSU will face no. 8 seed Oregon after they defeated Indiana University on Thursday, 72-59. The two programs have met five times, but never in the Big Ten Tournament. In their only meeting this year in East Lansing, MSU won 86-74 and has won the last three meetings in 2022 (74-70) and 1988 (76-71).

“The first day always worries me. I think there is an advantage for the team that plays on the first day but then the advantage goes away. To me, from top to bottom, this might be one of the best tournaments that I have been involved with,” said Izzo.

Heading into the Big Ten Tournament, MSU’s Jaden Akins and Jase Richardson were named All-Big Ten third team. Akins also made the All-Defensive team, while Richardson is on the All-Freshman team. Izzo earned his fourth Coach of the Year award.

MSU starts their journey to a Big Ten title at noon against Oregon on the Big Ten Network.
