FLINT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Flint Community Schools are one of the best funded school districts in the state of Michigan, getting more than double the state average on a per-pupil basis, according to a recent report released by the Michigan Department of Education.
Flint received $40,647 per-pupil to its general fund in 2023-24, according to the MDE’s Bulletin 1014 report. That funding total includes local, state and federal revenues. The state average was $15,206. Just eight miles away from Flint, Grand Blanc Community School received $14,718 per pupil.

The report highlights how important federal funding is to school districts that service less affluent communities. Flint Community Schools received $25,014 per pupil in federal funding in 2023-24. By comparison, Grand Blanc’s school district was given $1,437 per pupil in federal money.
Other urban districts were funded well above the state average. Benton Harbor Area Schools ($34,116), Pontiac City Schools ($31,745) and Detroit Public Schools Community District ($27,449) all received well above the state average of $15,206 per pupil.
