OKEMOS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – DOGE is continuing to cut wasteful spending nationwide, and this week it started looking at a social security administration office in Ingham County that has reportedly sat empty for quite some time.

The office space at 2163 University Drive in Okemos used for social security administrative purposes over the years has been added to a list of DOGE closures.

An area businessman spoke to Michigan News Source and said a couple of staff members were in and out of the office sporadically. The office space’s signage said “area directors offices” and periodically people would show up thinking it was an active social security office.

According to the General Services Administration, the office’s lease began on Sept. 10, 2003 and expired on Sept. 9, 2023.
