The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies in Orion Township had responded to a male subject who had been stabbed multiple times and that the suspect had fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. The statement went on to say, “The investigation revealed that the suspect is an Afghanistan refugee and the victim is a caseworker for a company that assists refugees.”

The suspect was taken into custody and the police say that there’s no indication that anyone else was involved or that there is a further danger to the community. The victim was taken into surgery with multiple serious stab wounds and has survived.

The caseworker works for Samaritas, formerly Lutheran Social Services, and the Sheriff’s Office reports that the suspect tracked the caseworker to his home before attacking him. The suspected also reportedly tried to stab another man who tried to help Mansuori.

Rahmati has been charged with two felonies – assault with intent to murder and assault with a dangerous weapon and is in the Oakland County Jail.

No motive for the assault has been established although the Sheriff’s Office says that it could be motivated by religion according to the media site Patch who also says that both men are Afghan nationals and live legally in the United States. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the crime.
