DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Michigan native and actor Jeff Daniels is boasting his “One Pride” for the Detroit Lions with a new song.
“The Curse of Bobby Layne” features a hopeful Daniels singing back-and-forth folklore with NFL legend Peyton Manning. The stroll down memory lane is also mixed with hope that the “curse” surrounding the Lions is over.

The “curse” stems from the Oct. 6, 1958 trade of Lions’ quarterback Bobby Layne to the Pittsburg Steelers. Layne’s parting words? The Lions “would not win for 50 years.”
“Jeff, I feel your pain,” Manning responds in the song.
Die-hard Lions fans know this truth all too well after sticking with the team through decades of loss. However, in the last three years, the Lions have proven themselves by getting progressively better each season.
“Just like that we started winning.”
The Lions finished the 2022 season 9-8. In 2023-2024, they finished 12-5 and made the playoffs. During this season, the Lions boast a 15-2 record as they head into the playoffs.
“Just like that we started winning,” Daniels sings. “Just like that we were playoff bound. Just like that way up in Heaven Bobby Layne turned around.”
“Say goodbye to the same old Lions.”
The Detroit Lions take on the Washington Commanders at 8 p.m. on Saturday night at Ford Field. A win would put them one step closer on the road to the Feb. 9 Super Bowl.
