LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Lansing School District is still tracking COVID-19 cases among students and staff. The school board received an update on the COVID-19 cases at a recent meeting.
The state of Michigan stopped posting COVID-19 data on its own website as of April 2024.

According to the district, staff members contracted six cases of COVID-19 in November and 15 in December. There were 14 reported student cases of COVID-19 in November and 23 in December.
The report stated there were 94 reported COVID-19 cases involving staff from August through December and 190 student cases over the same five-month period. Cases peaked in September with 39 cases involving staff and 81 student cases.
According to the state of Michigan, COVID-19 testing is not a requirement for schools but is optional. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) offers rapid antigen testing for schools and “vendor supported” testing to take the “testing burden” off of school district staff.
The state of Michigan provides school districts with free COVID-19 test kits for all K-12 schools. The state says the test kits are “free” to school districts but it is funded by federal taxpayer dollars.
