UTICA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The cost of educating a student at Utica Community Schools has increased 50% since the pandemic, increasing from $9,975 per pupil in 2019 to $14,296 in 2024.

That’s according to the annual audited report the second-largest school district in the state recently released.

General Fund operating expenses have increased from $268.1 million in 2019 to $362.6 million in 2024 while enrollment in the district has dropped from 26,878 to 25,365 over that same time period.

The district reported an increase in staffing from 2019 to 2024, going from 2,846 full time positions to 2,989. Teaching staff positions increased from 1,415 to 1,508 over that time period.

Utica Community Schools serves students from Shelby Township, Sterling Heights, Utica and parts of Macomb, Ray and Washington townships.
