LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) Ford Motor Company has announced it will terminate its 40-year contract with car hauler Jack Cooper, effective February 2, 2025. This decision is expected to result in the loss of approximately 100 jobs in metro Detroit and 1,400 nationwide, according to the Detroit Free Press

While Ford has not publicly disclosed the reasons for the termination, sources familiar with the matter suggest concerns about Jack Cooper’s financial stability may have played a role in the decision.

Jack Cooper CEO Sarah Amico described the situation as an “existential crisis” for the company.

“We will continue to focus our efforts on being a top-performing carrier in the industry thanks in large part to what I feel is the best driver and workforce in the car haul industry,” Amico said.

Notices of layoffs under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act have been issued for affected facilities in Michigan, as well as in Ohio, Missouri, Minnesota, and Kentucky.

Specifically, the termination will impact facilities in Dearborn and Wayne, where 96 Michigan workers, including 80 union positions, are set to lose their jobs.

A Ford spokesperson declined to comment on the specifics of the decision, telling the Detroit Free Press: “We do not comment on our contracts or relationships with individual suppliers.”
