LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – It’s the day after Christmas, and while some people will keep the glow up until after New Year’s Day, others may be ready to move on.
So what’s one to do with a real Christmas tree beyond just dragging it to the end of the driveway? The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers a few tips:
- Create a brush pile on your property to provide a wildlife habitat. But remove the decorations first!
- Cut the tree into small pieces or mulch to use in garden pots or landscaping. Make sure the tree is pesticide-free.
- Give the tree to a friend who has chickens or goats. Chickens roost on trees and goats love to nibble on them.
- Contact your municipality about recycling options.
