GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A 65-year-old man who police say claimed to have a bomb outside a September rally in Walker for President-elect Donald Trump has been found competent to stand trial.

Police say Steve Nauta claimed to have a bomb outside the rally at Falk Production in Walker. He faces several charges, including false report or threat of terrorism. That charge is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Security stopped Nauta after driving around the barricades at the checkpoint outside the rally. In addition, officials allege Nauta removed bags of fertilizer from his vehicle and threw them on the ground to make it look like explosives.

Nauta rejected a plea deal from Kent County prosecutors. Per the agreement, prosecutors offered to dismiss the explosives charge if Nauta pleaded guilty to the remaining counts. He remains in the Kent County jail on a $1 million bond.
