GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Nothing says “Merry Christmas” and “Happy Holidays” like a drag queen reading to children and families.
That’s exactly what is happening in Grand Rapids on Friday, Dec. 6 at 6:00 p.m. at Rise Authentic Baking Co. The free event is described as an “all ages” drag queen story event. General manager Lauren Steensma told Michigan News Source this is the first time the business has hosted an event like this. She said “Miss Moscato,” the drag queen who will be reading the books, works at the shop during the day.

According to the company’s Instagram page, “Storytime hour will be led by Miss Moscato (who doubles as Shane the Rise front of house associate by day)!!” It’s described as an “all ages family friendly” and free event.
News of the event received mixed reactions on social media, ranging from “love to see this!” to “Why read to kids [and not] the elderly or some other group?”
I don’t understand how drag queen shows went from bar entertainment to after school activities, it’s insanity!

Gross! Definitely trying to normalize this with the next generation because if they weren’t they would just read books to other adults.
