EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Frankenmuth’s Derrick Simmons, Orchard Lake native Charles White, and East Lansing’s Jace Clarizio will continue their football careers at Michigan State University. From Frankenmuth High School, Simmons is the third-best player in Michigan, while St. Mary’s White is the seventh and Clarizio the 10th.
Both defensive players will have an immediate impact at MSU. Simmons is 6-3 270 pounds, an All-State offensive lineman and All-Conference defensive lineman, and the 30th-best defensive lineman in the nation. He has been a starter on varsity since his freshman year and was a state finalist in track last year in the discus.

White, from St. Mary’s Prep, is rated the 37th-best linebacker in the nation. He led his team to the Michigan Division II State Championship game and had 76 tackles in his junior season. In track, he was a state finalist in the Michigan Division II 110-meter hurdles a year ago.
The 30th best running back in the nation, Clarizio is 6-0, 190 pounds, and flipped his commitment from Alabama to Michigan State in the last minute. He finished the year with 1,679 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns as his team lost in the Michigan Division II semifinals to Byron Center, 41-14.
With these three signees and the flip of Clarizio, MSU is now the 53rd-ranked recruiting class in head coach Jonathan Smith’s first year. He told the Detroit News, “You just keep competing, all he way to the end, and really re-echoing some messages, where we’re headed with this program. There’s just value for guys that play in this state, high-school football in this state, to be able to stay at home.”
