DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Stellantis NV CEO Carlos Tavares resigned Sunday, effective immediately.

His resignation comes amid the automaker’s recent profit struggles. That includes a U.S. sales decline along with increasing pressure from dealers and unions.

A search process for a new CEO is underway. Tavares’ contract had been set to expire in early 2026. In a statement, the company said will finalize new leadership within the next six months.

John Elkann, the company’s overall board chair, will guide the company until a permanent replacement is found.
