ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Planned Parenthood of Michigan (PPAM) is taking “self-care” to a whole new level with their abortion care bags which volunteers will be assembling during their “Empowering Abortion Care Bag” parties in Lansing and Detroit next week.
In a recent email to Planned Parenthood supporters in the state, Jenny Kinne (she/her), the Director of Political and Field Operations of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, lists several end-of-the-year upcoming events for Michiganders to participate in. These events include assembling the abortion care bags at parties which she calls an “empowering event of community, care and conversation.”

The care bags will be handed out to abortion patients in the future to provide “comfort items to help them during recovery.” The event also promises “critical conversations” about sex education and reproductive rights.
Abortions and aromatherapy.
For those who can’t be at the events but want to support the cause, PPAM has an Amazon Wish list that includes: shower steamers (aromatherapy), neck heat patches, Kraft bags, disposable underpads for incontinence, hair ties, hair scrunchies, facial sheet masks, tea bag samplers, lip balm, travel lotion and heart stickers.
Planned Parenthood’s effort to “comfort” patients with whimsical care bags might strike some as well-intentioned but others think they are tone-deaf. After all, they wonder, how do heart stickers and lip balm reconcile with the gravity of what many see as one of the most controversial and profound decisions a person can make – something that ends the life of a baby?
