WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – It’s time to check your vegetable crisper. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an alert after a muti-state outbreak of E. coli linked to organic carrots.
CDC officials say 39 cases of E. coli have been reported in 18 states, including Michigan, in connection to carrots sold by Grimmway Farms. In addition, 15 people, including a Michigander, have been hospitalized. One person died from the outbreak.

Grimmway Farms said contaminated baby carrots have best-if-used-by-dates ranging from September 11 to November 12. Whole carrots may not have best-by labels, but could have been purchased from August 14 to October 23.
Numerous stores sold the carrots including Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Publix, Food Lion, Target, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s.
CDC officials said recalled carrots should be thrown away or returned to the store for a refund. People should also clean and sanitize any surface they may have touched.
