WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – Now that the U.S. House has officially been called for Republicans, Michigan U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain can move ahead with plans to run for chair of the House Republican Conference.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, McClain said, “Our modern Republican Party needs someone who has lived the American dream and can effectively communicate President Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda with the American people.” She also emphasized that swing state Michigan delivered its 15 electoral votes for President-elect Donald Trump and that voters sent a clear message by electing GOP majorities to both the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate.

The No. 4 leadership position in the House is up for grabs after current chair and Congresswoman Elise Stefanik of New York could be headed to the United Nations per a nomination from President-elect Donald Trump.

 

The chair of the House Republican Conference presides over conference meetings and day-to-day operations for GOP House members.

McClain is in her second term.
