LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – After Michigan voters shifted the power from a Democratic to a Republican majority in the state House, the GOP’s incoming majority caucus elected a new leader on Thursday.

State Rep. Matt Hall (R-Richland Township) will serve as the next speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives. The outgoing speaker is Rep. Joe Tate (D-Detroit).

“Our focus will be on serving the people of our great state. Michiganders want safe neighborhoods, high-paying careers, effective schools, and secure elections,” Hall said. “House Republicans are ready to get to work to make our state the best place to raise a family safely and affordably.”

House Republicans selected the following legislators to serve on Speaker-elect Hall’s leadership team:

  • Speaker Pro Tempore Rachelle Smit (R-Shelbyville)
  • Associate Speaker Pro Tempore Jay DeBoyer (R-Clay Township)
  • Majority Floor Leader Bryan Posthumus (R-Cannon Township)
  • Assistant Majority Floor Leader Brian BeGole (R-Antrim Township)
  • Majority Whip Mike Harris (R-Waterford)
  • Chief Deputy Whip Joe Aragona (R-Clinton Township)
  • Caucus Chair Ken Borton (R-Gaylord)
  • Caucus Vice Chair Nancy Jenkins-Arno (R-Clayton)

The new House of Representatives will convene for its first formal session on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025.
