NEW YORK (Michigan News Source) – A Federal Communications Commissioner said that Saturday Night Live may have violated the FCC’s Equal Time rule by allowing Vice President Kamala Harris to appear on the comedy show.

The FCC’s Equal Time rule says its “rules seek to ensure that no legally qualified candidate for office is unfairly given less access to the airwaves – outside of bona fide news exemptions – than their opponent.”

Brendan Carr, the senior Republican on the FCC, posted on X, “This is a clear and blatant effort to evade the FCC’s Equal Time rule. The purpose of the rule is to avoid exactly this type of biased and partisan conduct – a licensed broadcaster using the public airwaves to exert its influence for one candidate on the eve of an election. Unless the broadcaster offered Equal Time to other qualifying campaigns.”

NBC News called the visit on Saturday night “a surprise.”

Harris appeared in the skit that opens the show. Maya Rudolph, the actress playing Harris, looked into the mirror during the skit and said, “I wish I could talk to someone who’s been in my shoes.” The real Harris appeared as the mirror reflection and told Rudolph, “I’m just here to remind you, you got this. Because you can do something your opponent cannot do: You can open doors.”

NBC didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Actor James Austin Johnson played Donald Trump in the skit.
“I don’t want to be here with you people, c’mon,” the Trump character told his supporters at a rally in the skit. “I’m out of gas. I’m running on fumes here, folks. You can see it, right? The cracks are showing.”
