EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – As the new basketball season unfolds at Michigan State, the men’s and women’s programs have a player on the preseason watch list. Grace VanSlooten and Frankie Fidler have eyes on their play to start the season.
Women’s basketball player VanSlooten, from Toledo, Ohio, is on the Cheryl Miller Award preseason watch list announced by the Naismith Basketball and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The transfer from Oregon is in her first season as a junior at MSU and is one of five Big Ten players on the list. She averaged 14.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in two seasons at Oregon. The Cheryl Miller Award honors the top small forwards in NCAA Division I women’s basketball.

Their first regular season game is on Tuesday, November 5 at 6:30 p.m. as they take on Oakland.
MSU senior forward Fidler is among 20 men’s basketball players selected to the Julius Erving Award Watch List by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He is one of four Big Ten players on the list and came to MSU after playing for three years at Nebraska- Omaha. The Bellevue, Nebraska, native is 6-7 and an All-Summit League first-team selection after averaging 20.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game last season.
The men’s team opens the 2024-25 regular season, hosting Monmouth University on November 4 at 7:00 p.m.
