LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A U.S. District Court judge dismissed a lawsuit from the Republican National Committee (RNC) over Michigan’s voter rolls, saying the GOP failed to identify “a plausible claim” that the state’s current practices violated federal law.

The 30-page decision from President Joe Biden appointee Judge Jane Beckering came two weeks before the Nov. 5 presidential election. While the judge claimed Benson has removed more than 800,000 voters from the rolls since taking office in 2019, she failed to address why Benson is waiting until after next month’s election to remove 550,000 voter registrations off the rolls.

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson released a statement after the ruling, calling the lawsuit “false” and “meritless.”

“Let me be clear: We have secure elections in Michigan,” Benson said. “Our state’s bipartisan, professional election officials work with the state Bureau of Elections every day to ensure every valid vote – and only valid votes – count in this and every election. ”

Benson’s claims of “safe and secure elections” fails to address the fact that election fraud did play a role in the 2020 election, and that could undermine people’s confidence in the upcoming election. A 2023 Rasmussen Reports and The Heartland Institute survey found more than 20% of voters who used mail-in ballots in 2020 admit they participated in at least one form of election fraud. That included casting a ballot for a family member or friend or casting ballots in a different jurisdiction than the one where they live.

It is unknown if the RNC will appeal the ruling.
