HOWELL, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – An Italian-based Catholic hospital with a pro-life approach plans to put down roots in Livingston County in 2026.

How is this medical school different?

Catholic Healthcare International (CHI) signed a purchase agreement to buy a 140,000-square-foot hospital in Howell, which will be run in the style of Padre Pio in Italy. Those close to the project describe the future school as “an ardently pro-life and pro-family medical school.” An informational video adds that the school opposes “the lies of gender ideology.”

Jere Palazzolo, founder of CHI, said the medical school will also feature an embryo orphanage, a center for unborn children, a birthing unit, and a family medicine practice. In addition, the hospital will offer a home for brain injury patients. The proposed Saint Padre Pio Institute for the Relief of Suffering, School of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking accreditation.

The proposed school contrasts current medical training.

Dr. George Mychaskiw, president of the proposed medical school, said the school will combat the “euphemisms” that have attached themselves to Western Medicine.

“‘Reproductive health care,’ ‘ending suffering,’ and ‘no one would want to live like that,’ are more reminiscent of Germany in 1942 than what health care should be in 2024,” Mychaskiw stated. “This medical school will armor physicians with the faith and truth to stand with their patients, protecting the lives and dignity of the most vulnerable.”

Michigan is a “fight like Hell” state.

The placement of the school will provide a stark dichotomy from the Democratic-controlled state legislature that stands just down the road. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has worked to install some of the most wide-sweeping abortion measures in the country, including abortion up through birth.
