LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Election officials in Ingham County contend a human error caused 97 voters to receive the wrong absentee ballot, and the correct ones are in the mail.

Lansing Township Clerk Cortney Lightheart’s office mailed replacement ballots to those 97 voters in the 2nd precinct. They had mistakenly received 3rd precinct ballots.

Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum said those residents should watch their mailbox for the replacement ballots and contact Lightheart’s office with questions. Officials remind all voters to double check their ballots.

Byrum is attributing the mistake to a temporary employee no longer working in Lightheart’s office. She claims that procedures are in place when human error impacts the election process. However, in this case, it is reported the voters found the error.

Michigan has seen its fair share of election battles, causing some to question the integrity of the Democratic-run state. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has repeatedly gone to court over her refusal to clean up the voter rolls. Most recently, she fought to keep Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on the ballot in Michigan, citing state election law for minor party candidates. Kennedy suspended his campaign in August and put his support behind former President Donald Trump.
