PONTIAC, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – At the eleventh hour, and after several months of bargaining, Oakland University and its faculty union reached a tentative agreement on a new contract.

The five-year tentative agreement prevented a strike before the first day of class on Wednesday.  Bargaining between the university and the Oakland University Chapter of the American Association of University Professors have been ongoing since June.

Included in the tentative agreement is a 4% merit pool increase and a one-time lump sum payment of $1,500 for full-time faculty. Special lecturers receive $500.

Over the next four years, a 3% merit pool increase is added each year plus $500,000 allocated for market adjustments in the second and third year. In addition, the agreement includes promotional raises and funds for faculty and research. It doubles the retirement stipend for special lectures.
