GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Two of the best programs in NCAA Division II come from Michigan with storied programs and national championships. Entering the 2024 season, Ferris State is No. 3 and Grand Valley State University is no. 5 in the D2football.com Preseason Poll.
These two teams battle it out every year for the GLIAC championship and fighting for home field advantage in the post season. GVSU played into the quarterfinals last year falling to eventual national champion Harding University, 7-6. They finished at 11-2 and won their second straight GLIAC championship. This is the 20th time since 2002 that the Lakers have earned a top 10 ranking with 17 top five rankings and 13 top three rankings. Their first game of the year comes on Thursday, September 5, at home against Central State.

Ferris State is picked to win the GLIAC this year after coming in second to GVSU last season. They open the 2024 season on Saturday, August 31, in a top five showdown against No. 4 Pittsburg State (KS) at Pittsburg. FSU has made a nation-leading nine consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II playoffs with back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022. They went 8-3 last season losing to GVSU in the first round of the NCAA playoffs, 21-14.
The two teams will face each other on October 26 at GVSU in the Anchor Bone Classic at 3:00 p.m.
