LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she supports a thorough and independent review of the police and emergency response to the mass shooting at Oxford High School in November 2021.

Ethan Crumbley, who was 15 at the time of the shooting, killed four classmates and injured seven others.  He is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

His parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, are serving 10 to 15 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. They purchased the gun for their son just days before the shooting and ignored his cries for mental health help.

In June, Michigan’s State Board of Education signed a resolution after meeting with parents. The Board urged the Michigan Legislature to mandate and fund an independent investigation into the shooting.

The Oxford Community Schools district has rejected three offers from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to independently investigate the Oxford shooting.
