DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Stellantis NV’s Trenton Engine Complex will shut down next week “to balance engine inventories” and will temporarily lay off workers, the company said.

The facility produces V-6 Pentastar engines for Rams, Chryslers and Jeeps, and employs more than 600 hourly and salaried workers over two shifts.

The Trenton shutdown follows several other temporary Stellantis plant or shift cutbacks this summer, including in Warren and Toledo. The company is responding to a 16% decrease in sales during the first half of this year.

In addition, last week Stellantis announced a permanent layoff at its Warren Truck Assembly Plant that could impact an upwards of 2,450 workers. Those layoffs are scheduled for October and stem from the discontinuation of the Ram 1500 Classic.
