PAW PAW, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan’s first case of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in 2024 has been detected in an unvaccinated Southwest Michigan horse.
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) says officials detected the disease in a Standardbred filly in Van Buren County.

Cases in the states are typically seen in late summer and early fall. While this is the first EEE case in Michigan this year, West Nile virus has been detected in 48 mosquito pools, 12 wild birds and one person.
