PARIS (Michigan News Source) – Paris is turning into Wolverine Headquarters another alumni has won an Olympic medal. Alumna Alena Olsen helped the U.S.A. to the Bronze Medal in the women’s rugby. She becomes Michigan’s first rugby player to earn a medal.
Olsen, who went was Michigan’s class of 2018, started playing rugby as a freshman for the women’s club team. She earned a nomination to the Collegiate Rugby Championship Dream Team in 2016 and 2017 and was a two-time All-American.

Starting the Bronze Medal match, she went 2-for-2 on conversion attempts for four points. Over the six-match stretch, she started three and helped the U.S.A. to hold the opposition to 14.3 points per game and an average of 2.3 tries per game.
She is a member of the Kansas City Headliners of the Premier Rugby Sevens since the inaugural tournament in 2021.
