There is a “Report Misinformation” button on the Michigan Secretary of State page. It asks that people reporting “include as much information as possible in the report.” It suggests including “date, time, example, proof document attachments.”
The Michigan Bureau of Elections specified what election misinformation is here.
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson mentioned the “era of political violence” earlier this week in a press conference, but stopped short of referencing the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Benson said a law passed in 2023 makes it a felony to threaten election workers.
“We are all on guard in the months ahead,” Benson told reporters. She said her department has been in talks with county clerks and emergency responders about instituting a “panic button” system for the Nov. 5 election. It will allow workers to report a threat at polling locations to law enforcement.
Michigan’s primary election is Tuesday, Aug. 6.
