DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Belle Isle’s giant slide is reopening Friday two years after safety reasons forced it to close. To celebrate the reopening, visitors will have the opportunity to ride the six-lane slide for free from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

The slide has undergone safety improvements following its 2022 closure. The slide went viral that year for multiple incidents when it sent people flying, and, in some cases, injuring them.

Now, the slide has new padding and other safety upgrades that should keep visitors from coming down too fast. The slide was first installed in 1967 and has been a Detroit staple for decades. The slide will remain open every weekend through Labor Day.
