Sneller, a Democrat, began his role in the state legislature in 2017 after being elected to the 99th legislature. The Burton resident represented multiple communities in southern Genesee County.

Before running for office, Sneller worked as a substitute teacher for Bentley Community Schools. He worked at the General Motors Flint Assembly plant and was a union member with UAW Local 598.

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of former Representative Tim Sneller,” said State Rep. David Martin (R-Davison). “Tim and I served together in the Legislature representing Genesee County, and while we found ourselves on opposite sides of the political aisle, I always respected his dedication to public service. Tim devoted his life to serving the people of Genesee County, both as a legislator and as a longtime legislative staffer. His commitment and passion for our community were evident in everything he did.”

Fellow Democrat Congressman Dan Kildee, who represents Sneller’s area, also offered his condolences. “I am heartbroken by the passing of my friend, Tim Sneller,” Kildee said. “Tim was a true public servant. He worked hard for the people of Michigan for more than 30 years, both as a legislative aide and state representative and cared deeply about his community.”

Funeral plans for Sneller have not been released.
