LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The state governments of Michigan and Illinois along with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have reached an agreement on Asian carp.
The deal will open funding for the $1.15 billion Brandon Road Lock and Dam project near Joliet, Illinois to complete the first phase of the work to keep the invasive fish from Lake Michigan.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer says the agreement “will help us get shovels in the ground as soon as possible.” The federal government is paying 90% of the costs.
According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), silver carp can leap through the air and have caused injury to boaters in the Illinois River. In addition, silver carp can greatly reduce fishing opportunities.
