HILLSDALE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The funeral for slain Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Deputy William Butler is scheduled for Wednesday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at Hillsdale College Christ Chapel.

The Hillsdale community came out Saturday to line the road and honor the life of the 51-year-old fallen deputy as his body arrived in a police procession.

Butler, a husband and father of five, was also a veteran of the United States Army National Guard and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

His squad car is on display in front of the Hillsdale sheriff’s office. People have stopped by to pay their respects and covered the car with flowers and balloons.

Butler died last Thursday after a suspect shot him. The suspect lead police on a four-hour manhunt before opening fire and dying at the hands of police.
