DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – General Motors has appointed Marc Whitten as the new CEO of their Cruise self-driving unit, effective July 16. He succeeds Kyle Vogt, who resigned in November following an incident where a pedestrian was dragged by a Cruise self-driving taxi.
Mo Elshenawy will continue his role as president and chief technology officer at Cruise.
In addition to Whitten’s appointment, there are other executive changes: Craig Glidden, previously chief administrative officer at GM, will focus more on Cruise as its president and chief administrative officer, while also serving as an executive VP and strategic adviser at GM.
Whitten, a founding engineer of Xbox and Xbox Live, is also a former Amazon executive.
