LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Lawmakers in Michigan’s House Budget Committee earmarked taxpayer money for two economic projects on Thursday.

The committee approved the transfer of $97 million to Michigan’s SOAR Fund, which provides taxpayer-funded incentives for large-scale industrial developments. That funding is designated for a $990 million development by Corning Inc. near Hemlock. Supporters of the project say it is expected to create more than 1,100 jobs paying an average of $65,000 per year.

The other project lawmakers voted on will provide $250 million of state restricted contingency authorization for site readiness at a proposed megasite in Genesee County’s Mundy Township. That project is lacking in specifics, and locals don’t know who is developing the project of what will be manufactured there.
