GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A groundbreaking ceremony to build a new 25,000-square-foot lodge is in the books and now construction will get underway at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in southeast Grand Rapids.

It will be almost five times the size of the lodge that was torn down and will have a gym, classrooms, a fitness room, and offices.

A new pool and a new playground will also be added. The project will cost $19.7 million and is being paid for by the city’s capital fund, American Rescue Plan Act money, a Michigan Economic Development Corporation Grant, and the city’s 3rd Ward equity fund.
