JACKSON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Sam Butcher, a Jackson native and artist who founded Precious Moments figures, has died at the age of 85.

According to the Precious Moments website, Butcher started drawing at an early age. In 1975, he started drawing the Precious Moments children to communicate a spiritual message.
“Precious Moments artwork was introduced to the public in 1975 on inspirational greeting cards and posters, and in 1978 the first Precious Moments figurines were unveiled,” the website states.
A cause of death has not been released.
