CORUNNA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Shiawassee County Sheriff Doug Chapman is traveling to Grand Rapids today to meet with former President Donald Trump and other law enforcement officers, and he will have no shortage of conversation topics.

Sheriff Chapman confirmed to Michigan News Source that three illegal immigrants have been arrested in his county since January 1 for soliciting sex with minors.

The sting, part of the Shiawassee Human Oppression Team (SHOT), has lead to the arrest of 28 people for similar crimes since its founding in 2021.

“My primary function as sheriff is the safety of everyone in the community,” Chapman said. “Don’t come here and harm a child because we will find you, arrest you, and prosecute you.”

While there have been unconfirmed reports about how the illegal immigrants arrived in Shiawassee County, where they were staying, and how they afforded rent, Sheriff Chapman said his focus will remain on catching criminals.

“[Harming kids] is not going to happen on my watch,” Sheriff Chapman said. He said the county, which has worked with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), will do its best to “make sure those who shouldn’t be here are sent back” when referring to illegal immigrants committing criminal activity.

SHOT coordinates with neighboring Genesee County’s Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team (GHOST) and Sheriff Chris Swanson in what Chapman called a very successful operation.

The influx of illegal immigration has increased since President Joe Biden took office, and concerns are mounting in small and large communities alike. President Trump plans to speak with law enforcement officers Tuesday afternoon when he visits Grand Rapids about how he’ll shore up the border again if he’s elected in November.
