Timothy Kildee’s 27-year-old son was involved in a serious crash shortly after the shooting and he remained hospitalized at Hurley Medical Center under police guard. The son was not identified and has not been charged; police are awaiting toxicology results.

Congressman Kildee offered a brief statement as he flew back home from Washington. “Our family is grieving and heartbroken. There are no words to describe the loss of a beloved brother and family member, especially in such a terrible tragedy.” He continued, “I thank the community for honoring my family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

The sheriff’s office does not believe anyone else is connected to the incidents.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said he believes the suspect could face charges of open murder, carjacking, armed robbery and weapons crimes for the death of Timothy Kildee.
