GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners voted to terminate administrator John Gibbs on Thursday night.
The board voted 10-1 to dismiss Gibbs “with cause” and cited his tenure had been “dishonest.” In addition, the board stated that Gibbs had “committed gross misconduct, and/or committed willful malfeasance.”

The move comes after complaints and controversy surrounding Gibbs’ time as administrator. The board placed Gibbs on administrative leave last week.
The lone “no” vote came from Commissioner Doug Zylstra, who said he would have preferred a full investigation and mediation to an outright firing.
Gibbs, who lost a bid for Congress in 2022, issued his own statement on social media.
One county official said it will implement a thorough search process to find Gibbs’s replacement.
