LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum and Ingham County Detective Sergeant Brad Delaney have petitioned a judge to dismiss a Title IX lawsuit against themselves, school administrators, and Mason Public Schools.
The school board for Mason Public Schools expelled the boy after allegedly “digitally penetrating” a classmate in May 2022.

According to the girl’s attorney Brandon Wolfe, she chose not to press criminal charges because she did not want to testify in court and assumed the permanent expulsion meant she could move forward.
However, Byrum and Delaney petitioned the school board to have their expelled son reinstated, and the board granted their request.
While school administrators issued a “no-contact” order between the two students, it is still in violation of the girl’s Personal Protection Order (PPO) granted and recently renewed by a judge.
Two Mason High School administrators are also named in the lawsuit.
On Wednesday, dozens of students “walked out” of class on County Day to bring attention to safety concerns stemming from the lawsuit.
