According to his obituary, Post was raised on the south side of Grand Rapids. He graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School, served in the Army Air Corps and spent two years at Calvin College.

Post became the plant manager of Hekman (later known as the Keebler Company). Kellogg’s executives asked Post if Keebler could come up with a new product, later known as the “Pop-Tart.”

Post’s obituary said of his new-found fame, “I assembled an amazing team that developed Kellogg’s concept of a shelf-stable toaster pastry into a fine product that we could bring to market in the span of just four months”. The collaboration and growth of Kellogg’s and Keebler continued until Kellogg’s finally purchased the Keebler company.

Later in life, Post moved to Illinois and worked at Keebler’s corporate offices. He retired and returned to Grand Rapids in 2003.
