CHELSEA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Chelsea Hospital in Washtenaw County recently received a prestigious title as the Top 100 hospitals in the United States for the third straight year.
The hospital is a joint venture between Trinity Health Michigan and University of Michigan, and earned the “Top Teaching Hospital” award again in early December.

“The Top Teaching Hospital is a category within the Top Hospital award program, which is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards American hospitals can receive,” Chelsea Hospital said in a statement. “We are also proud of our joint venture partner, University of Michigan Health, for also receiving this award.”
The Leapfrog Group awarded the honor. It’s a national watchdog organization focused on health care safety and quality – which granted a number of awards including 132 Top Hospital Awards, 8 Top Children’s Hospitals, 35 Top General Hospitals, 15 Top Rural Hospitals and 74 Top Teaching Hospitals.
“This recognition is one of the toughest awards in the industry to earn, so the hospitals and ASCs that receive this award have demonstrated an incredible commitment to patient safety and their community,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We also salute all the facilities that were in the running for this award—including those that didn’t get it this year. Hospitals and ASCs must be highly transparent about their quality to even be eligible for this award, and transparency is indispensable to achieving excellence. We thank them for earning the trust of their communities and look forward to awarding them in future years.”
In 2023, more than 2,100 hospitals were considered for the Top Hospital distinction.
