LAKE ORION, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – With the 2024 elections on the horizon, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is making sure high schoolers in Michigan know about the election process.
Benson’s office told Michigan News Source that the Secretary gave a presentation in Oakland County at Lake Orion High School last week about how elections work in Michigan, who can register to vote, dates of the upcoming 2024 elections, and why voting matters.

Students choose what topic they want to vote on and voted for their “candidate.” Lake Orion high schoolers chose the best holiday food. The “candidates” in the general election were Ham and Macaroni and Cheese. Students voted in a primary and general election and some volunteered to be poll workers to count the ballots.
Benson gave high school students information about how to register to vote. Her office said students were not registered to vote as part of the Secretary’s visit. More information can be found here.
