MIDLAND, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A U.S. district judge ruled that Michigan is entitled to nearly $120 million for ecological damages from the former owner of the Edenville Dam in Midland and Gladwin counties.
The judge granted the state’s motion for a default judgment against Lee Mueller. He managed Boyce Hydro which is the company that owned the Edenville and Sanford dams when they failed in May 2020.
The monetary award includes:
$21 million for damage to Michigan’s fisheries with the loss of fish species.
$90 million for damage to the freshwater mussel ecosystem.
$8.825 million for other miscellaneous damages.
