DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – “So today at noon Eastern Time, all of the parts distribution facilities at General Motors and Stellantis are being called to stand up and strike, we will be striking 38 locations, across 20 states, across all nine regions of the UAW,” said United Auto Workers Union President Shawn Fain said on a Facebook Live on Friday morning. 

As United Auto Workers in several states round out the first week of the ‘Stand Up’ Strike, UAW President Shawn Fain announced a nationwide expansion of the strike at General Motors and Stellantis.

While Fain praised the work of Ford to come to the table and have some new proposals, he voiced his displeasure with GM and Stellantis and activated a massive expansion for the ‘Stand Up’ Strike spanning more than a dozen states. 

At General Motors, the following plants are called to strike: Pontiac Redistribution, Willow Run Redistribution, Ypsilanti Processing Center, Davidson Rd. Processing Center, Flint Processing Center, Lansing Redistribution, Cincinnati Parts Distribution, Denver Parts Distribution, Hudson Parts Distribution, Chicago Parts Distribution, Reno Parts Distribution Center, Rancho Cucamonga Parts Distribution, Fort Worth Parts Distribution, Martinsburg Parts Distribution, Jackson Parts Distribution, Charlotte Parts Distribution, Memphis AC Delco Parts Distribution, and Philadelphia Parts Distribution. 

At Stellantis, the following plants are called to strike: Marysville, Centerline Packaging, Centerline Warehouse, Sherwood, Warren Parts, QEC, Romulus, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Denver, Chicago, Los Angeles, Portland, Atlanta, Winchester, Orlando, Dallas, New York, and Boston. 

Fain did praise Ford for coming to the table and offering several new proposals including: eliminated wage tier for sterling axle employees who will be on the same pay scale as assembly workers, reinstated the cost of living allowance that was suspended in 2009, the right to strike over plant closures during the live of an agreement, additional job security in the event of a layoff including for temporary employees, and a profit sharing formula that would result in a 13.3% increase for average employees and payouts last year, the immediate conversion of temporary workers to full-time workers with the ability to earn profit sharing after 90 days of work. 

There are no concessions on the table according to Fain, who expressed some victories with Ford, but that negotiations were not finished. 

“But to be clear, we’re not done at Ford,” Fain said, “We still have serious issues to work through, we do want to recognize that Ford is serious about reaching a deal.  At GM and Stellantis it’s a different story.”

According to Fain, the American people are on the side of the strikers, citing several polls, and he extended an invitation to others to join in the picket line, including the Commander in Chief. 

“The plants that are already on strike, will remain on strike,” he said, “we invite and encourage everyone who supports our cause to join us on the pickett line, from our friends and families, all the way up to the President of the United States, we invite you to join us in our fight.” 

He also shared that the union members will shutdown parts distribution until “those two companies come to their senses and come to the table with a serious offer.”

The new strike members will join the more than 13,000 members of the UAW currently on strike.
